Caribou Coffee Latest to offer Oatmeal

In an article that i read, a place called Caribou Coffee is going to start offering oatmeal options on their menu. Click here to read article. Caribou Coffee is a small chain of 500 and they have taken into consideration the benefits of eating oatmeal, such as lowering ones bad cholesterol and reducing the risk of heart disease.
They are offering a variety of oat meals that include apple cinnamon, cranberry orange, maple brown sugar crunch and very berry. The price if the oatmeal is not too expensive, ranging from 3.49 with a medium coffee and 4.99 with a latte. Consumers can also add a topping to their oats and they include any threeapple-cinnamon, strawberry compote, orange compote, dried cranberries, golden raisins, almonds, maple syrup and maple brown sugar crunch. Not only is Caribou Coffee starting to offer oatmeal but they are also starting to offer the option of healthier milk for the oatmeal. One can choose from a choice of soy, skim or 2 percent milk. Caribou says that its food offerings will continue to change in the upcoming years offering other healthy options to keep up with competitors such as Starbuck's new low calorie panini, and Jamba Juice's new oatmeal flavor juice.
This new trend of healthy food options going to be the new way to reach out to people and I feel that it just may start getting American consumers to think about the food that they are eating. Caribou's simple addition of oatmeal is just one small step in the huge leap to change the way Americans consume food.

  1. i feel that Caribou Coffee is really thinking outside the box. I feel that this concept will only work with their regular customers. They ould need to really use word of mouth to get the consumers to know about the actually healt benefits in oatmeal.

  2. I agree with Vanessa, I myself am not a big fan of oatmeal and I think that if that is their only healthy option that they came up with then it probably will not become that popular. I also think that the price is pretty expensive. Oatmeal is very inexpensive and I know that I would not spend 5 bucks on a latte and oatmeal when I can easiy make oatmeal at home for a much cheaper price.

I think in order to make a stronger impact on the healthier trends, they need to come up with other meal options. I think that they shoiuld have already had the option for soy milk and fat free milk since this has been popular requests for a long time now.

  3. I mean it's good that this coffee shop is now offering oatmeal but it's a little late. Although this is a small coffee shop the options are close to none. If someone doesn't like oatmeal and want to eat healthy. I personally don't like oatmeal so if I go to that cafe I probaby wouldn't be able to eat anything.

  4. I think that what Caribou is breaking into is great. Consumers need some new, healthy, flavorful options. I think that a lot of people get bored with the same old menu choices and offering something that is beneficial to one's health, as well as exciting with several flavor options, will really draw in not only the average customer, but new customers as well.
Like Aaron said, this is one small step for the American consumer. I really feel that if more coffee shops offered menu options with the knowledge to bring awareness to their consumer about health benefits of the food offered, America might be able to one day soon change the way people think about food.
