Anti -obesity Push

While doing my nightly pondering on Nations Restaurant News I came upon an interesting article entitled contract feeders to support anti-obesity push. This article basically talks about how Compass Group North America, Aramark, and Sodexo, the top onsite suppliers, are joining first lady at the White House in her anti obesity push. They all have agreed to introduce more fruit juices, milk, grains and vegetables in school lunches. Along with those healthy choices, they also agree to increase or push the amount of food that meets medical recommendations for fat, sugar and grains. Thats not all, they also are going to increase the amount of education that is available to parents and students.
I feel that this is a really great accomplishment and step forward in the push to decrease obesity. The United States has the highest obesity rate of any other country, and big accomplishments like this can really make a difference. As an uncle to a niece and nephew its really releaving to hear that they will be able to eat healthy at school. For some kids, eating at school is the most eating they do all day so it is crucial that the most they eat be the healthiest it can be. I feel that in the next five to ten years the US will see a decrease in obesity, not necessarily because of this new push by the first lady, but because its been a huge wake up call these past couple years. I remember growing up and eating school lunches that consisted of high fatty foods loaded with sugars and preservatives and I think that if the schools and other officials pushed for this anti-obesity back when I was going to school then the US just may not have ended up being the fattest country.

  1. It's great that these three major companies are pushing to stop the obesity crisis. Working with Michelle Obama is going in the right direction. The First Lady is driven to repair America's outlook on food. I think it's great that these companies are teaming together for a great goal.

On the contrary I don't want America to feel pressered to loose weight and eat healthy. I just wish it could be a more natural progression. The only way to change America is by sticking it down people's throats! As a nation we are stubborn when it comes to chnage so in order to change America companies have to be more aggressive.

  2. I really glad to see major food suppliers supporting what the First Lady brought to the table a few days ago. This issue has been a huge one in America and with the help of food suppliers and educators we can help change the ideas put in children's heads about healthy eating.

The three companies committed, Sodexho, Compass Group, and Aramark, have created advanced goals for the program that include doubling the amount of produce offered in school meals over the next 10 years. That would be amazing to see happen. Like Aaron said, I too remember back in elementary school when the lunches were filled with a high fat content and packed with sugar. Maybe by the time our children are in elementary schools, the lunches, and possibly even breakfast, items will be healthier!

  3. Its great to hear that Compass Group, Aramark, Sodexho and other major companies are complying with the healthier changes as well. It is important that schools offer healthier options. I remember in my Intermediate school, every day we only ate french fries some days. This was an aweful diet and of course we crashed by the end of the school day which made us only lazier to do anything after school. I agree with Leya though, I dont think we should have healthy take over the country. Not everyone is obese, yes it is a growing problem, yet I think it we just adjust to more natural foods and favor making meals at home with the family can help promote healthier life styles.

  4. This article is crazy. First it is amazing that a multi-million dollar company helps out America and supports the first lady. It really shows that they are doing their best to make this country better and better everyday and in whatever ways they can. If you want over anaylze it like I do everything, It could make people think that these companies are Democrates and Republicans would stop buying these products. Thats just the world we live in. I do not have a political opinion buy I do like Mrs. Obama is trying to do and make changes in this insane country we live in.

    One Love,
    Vanessa
