I found this article on how junk food is now the "bad guy" on TV and film. Apparently a lot of critics believe that what children see on TV and in movies, is affecting this daily life. I have to agree with them. As children, we have been told by our parents that some things we see on TV are bad and we "shouldn't do them". But we have also been told that some things are okay. It seems that these days a lot more of the population of children and young teenagers are watching TV and movies without adult supervision. This lowers the amount of guidance they have while watching a show and knowing whether something is "right" or "wrong".
This article also points out that sitting in front of the television is a sedentary activity. Not only are children being exposed to junk food via shows and commercials, they are not being active during that time either. I once heard a comment that more children can pick out who Ronald McDonald is over George Washington or the current president. It is obvious that junk food exposure is taking over TV and films and there needs to be a regulation or modification in order to help children know and learn what is healthy for their bodies.
The article was interesting to read because as a child I often did just sit in front of the tv and not excerise. It's sad the children now and days watch so much tv. I do give crdit to Michelle Obama for pushing more health within the youth.
ReplyDeleteI have younger cousins who are bigger than me and they're in their pre teens. It's very scary to see how fast children are growing now. It puts up a red flag to America that we really need to change and take our health more seriously. Children often eat what there parents eat or do what their parents do. Therefore if there parents are eating unhealthy, most likely is the child because parents are the providers. On the contrary if a parent is eating healthy and working out the child will follow their foot steps.
This article was a little wild. Yes, kids are spending a lot more time in front of the television and not exercising but saying junk food is the new cig. is just plain stupid. They parents or guardians should be watching what there kids are watching. They will obv. pick up on the commercials that are being advertised to their kids and as a good parent they will tech them and help them practice a health life style.
ReplyDeleteI watch a lot of t.v. I feel that junk food ads are something parents shjould not worry about to much. Its stuff like sex, drugs, violence and rock and roll that they really should be worried about.

I agree with Vanessa. I think that is it great how society today is changing into a healthier atmosphere and focusing on child obesity. Yet, I do not think it is a sit down convo parents should give their kids like parents do when they talk about drugs and sex. Yes, obesity has become a problem, yet parents should just make healthier dinners, pack lunches for younger school kids as well as kick their asses outside when their just sitting around watching TV.
ReplyDeleteMy parents remind me all the time that they used to ride their bikes to their friends houses after school, walk to school and spend alot of their time outside. Im sure there were commercials and movies then too displaying unhealthier eating habits and junk food.
Also cigarettes are alot more dangerous than junk food. You can tell your kids that it is ok for small consumptions of junk food, yet no parent would tell their kid its ok to have a few puffs of a cigarette now and then.
